Review 39 – CoolWallet

I’m always on the lookout for competition in the Bitcoin ecosystem. I’m a firm believer that competition breeds innovation and keeps prices down. Don’t get me wrong, I think there’s definitely something good about being an established name with a proven track record. It fosters trust and respect. However,

Review 37 – Electrum

I’ve never been a big fan of desktop wallets. I always thought that I was too mobile for them to be of any real use to me. I don’t see the appeal of being tied to a location. Even my laptop is relegated to a tool for writing.

Review 35 – GreenAddress

Because I recently did a review on GreenBits I decided to do do a review on their other wallet product GreenAddress. I know the first question I’m going to be asked is why I would be recommending a web wallet when I’ve railed against them so hard in the past.

Review 33 – GreenBits

I decided to try another mobile wallet out. I’m fairly set in my ways, so my comparison is always “Is this wallet good enough to take all or part of my business from my current solutions?” Meaning, does this wallet bring something to the table that would give me enough reason to convert all or part of my usage to it?

Review 30 – Airbitz

I was notified by the Community Manager of Airbitz that they were putting out a new version of their wallet and it had some cool new features they were proud of. She asked me if I would be willing to give their wallet a try and write a review on it.

Review 21 – Uphold

I’ve been relatively happy with my choice to promote Coinbase as an initial on-ramp to the Bitcoin ecosystem. I am expanding my on-ramp listing to include Uphold, but know that Uphold members are subject to the same Anti-Money Laundering laws and Know Your Customer guidelines in the US.

Review 18 –

I’m always on the lookout for easy ways to have people send me bitcoin. QR codes are great, but what if I’m on the go and don’t have time to dig out my phone, unlock it, pull up my wallet, unlock it, pull up a QR code, and have it scanned?

Review 8 – Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet

Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet

I really like Copay mainly because it runs on everything. It makes a very good teaching tool because it’s very intuitive and I don’t have to explain how to do things differently based on which platform my readers may choose to use. But if someone asked me which Bitcoin wallet software happens to be my favorite I would not hesitate to say Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet.

Review 5 – Ledger HW.1

Ledger HW.1

LHW1_boxMy second Hardware Wallet review is another Ledger product: the Ledger HW.1, which stands for “Hardware Wallet”. It is a smart card device that holds a Bitcoin Wallet. It can be used as a single user, but can also be purchased in sets of 3 or 10 and used in a group situation using multisig.

Review 4 – Ledger Unplugged

Ledger Unplugged

LUN_boxFor my first Hardware Wallet review I would like to offer up the Ledger Unplugged. It is a Java Card applet running on a device the size of a credit/debit card produced by Fidesmo. It uses NFC to communicate with your mobile phone or other contactless reader.

Review 3 – Copay

If you follow my Tutorials to get into Bitcoin you’ll notice that I first recommend users start out with Coinbase or Circle. I do this for various reasons you can read about over there. But there comes a point in the Tutorials that I recommend people get a standalone wallet.

Review 2 – Circle

NOTICE: I’m leaving this review up and untouched below this notice because it was accurate when I wrote it. On 2016-12-07 Circle announced that they would no longer offer the service of buying and selling bitcoin. I am rescinding all recommendations of their service simply because they are no longer a Bitcoin related service.

Review 1 – Coinbase

I’ve been using Coinbase for two years now. In fact my first Bitcoin wallet was with Coinbase. The fact that I’m still using this service is testament to its usefulness. Coinbase takes a lot of flack for a few things, some imagined and some deserved, but it’s still one of the easiest and safest ways to get into the Bitcoin ecosystem.
